MPT #4 was held on September 18, 2026 at Jason’s house. We continued our experimentation with antes, which TD still contends moves the games along and makes shorter hands more interesting. That said, I will entertain a swelling of opposition and consider removing them, but I haven’t heard much grumbling about them.
We had one new player, and I’m always tempted to add “regretfully” when said new player wins both tournaments of the evening. Congrats Chris D, and speaking for probably most of the MPT regulars, we hope this was a case of “beginner’s luck” (though based on what I saw, I don’t think luck had a lot to do with it).
Speaking of lucky (or in this case, unlucky), Eric M was the victim of a couple bad beats, leading going into the flop and coming out on the losing end. Eric was also the only player to take advantage of the “rebuy” theme, rebuying into the 1st event after being knocked out first. It ended up being a wash, however, as he finished 3rd for $10, so either way it was -$10 venture. However, I look at it as “free poker”, and it’s gotta feel a little better finishing 3rd than 6th, even if the monetary result is the same. Of course, I’m speaking as someone who won a big fat $0 on the night.
Thanks to all for coming, hope to find another date that works for the majority in October!
