MPT #2 was held on May 29, 2026 at Jason’s house. It will probably be a rare occasion to have two events in the same calendar month, but scheduling made it both possible and necessary.

Probably the most exciting news of the event was the acquisition of the old MPT poker table that Nemo (Steve N) had built many years ago. (Unfortunately, the building of the table wasn’t the cause of the table-saw mishap that sent Nemo the ER and missing an MPT event – at his own home – but that is a story that needs re-telling at the next MPT). Below is the table, which holds 12 comfortably and 13 squeezed in. Any more than 13 and we’ll split into 2 tables. The craftmanship is excellent and all seemed impressed. It’s great that the table that served us so well for the dozens of Mini Poker Tournament events will continue to get regular use for Metro Poker Tournament.

Former “Poker Rookie” Jeff E took home the crown, the only player on the night to finish in the money in 2 events. On the flip side, Nick W had a rough night, but with a perfectly valid excuse of having a newborn at home!

The theme (Bounty night) didn’t carry too many consequences. The bounty was on the host (me) the first game, but I won that game, so in the next game, the bounty was doubled. It was either Ian E or Jeff E who knocked me out of that game, but the TD (also me) was not reminded of the 200 chip bonus, it was not paid out. The TD needs to cut back on the Rusty Nails and focus on the tournament administration so nobody is screwed out of the bonus chips they’ve earned! We’ll see if that happens.

I don’t remember too many of the more interesting hands, so if you remember details of any, please add it to the discussion. One hand I do remember involved 3 people, Jeff E, Ian E, and myself. I was dealt 9-10 and the flop came 8, J, K. Some betting occurred, but none of us were chased out. The turn was a 7 and I started feeling pretty good, and I checked. I think Jeff E bet, and we all stayed in. The river brought a Q, not a card I wanted at all. Jeff E went all-in, Ian E followed with his own all-in, and I was wondering which one of these has A-10. My straight didn’t feel so good anymore. Ultimately, Jeff E ALSO had 9-10 and we split the remainder of Ian E’s chips.

The award for Consistent Bettor goes to Tim F, who began game #2 on a hot streak and accumulated quite a pile of chips, almost all of which were earned without needing to show his cards. On the 10/20 blinds, Tim routinely bet $50, and the rest of the players routinely folded. It quickly became known as the “Standard Tim Bet”.

The only other thing I remember well is the incredibly buggy software the MPT Software Engineer delivered (me again). Hopefully I will have time to fix it up, because it really threw me off my game the rest of the night - and that is the reason I didn’t finish in the money in games 2 or 3 (and I’m sticking with that).

One person who was missed was Derek K. Check that, what I mean to say is his party snack mix was missed. I did my best to reverse-engineer the recipe from the last event and my fiance made it for us. While it was decent, we do need the return of Derek (and his money) for the next event.

I’m hoping the next event can be June 26, but calendars of many participants did not seem to cooperate. I’ll send out a feeler to see if there’s enough interest in the wider group.
